Topic: WIP (partially Issuing parts to a work order/assembly)

MiniMrp also allows (rightly or wrongly) negative stock.

Once it's WIP you can 'Complete' parts leaving some as WIP.

We start with an assembly that in most cases it will be used just once (this assembly needs to be modified along the process to accommodate customization or unavailable parts).
The work order is then created to build ONE item (one car).
We need to continue to procure parts during the build process, therefore having the possibility to issue components as we move along the build would be a better way to control what part of the WIP is actually done.

MiniMRP would mainly be used in a situation where you create a Bill of Materials (BOM) which is used and reused many times to build the same identical products over and over again. For example if you built and sold Carburetors you have a BOM for each type of Carburetor. When you want to buld one you'd generate a Work Order and BOM and allocate materials to that work order. At the same time a colleague might create a different work order to build a different Carb but these different Carbs might use some of the same common components. MiniMRP can identify these common parts and help you manage your inventory so that you can complete all of your work orders without holding too much inventory.
But your requirement is more of a unique job costing thing where you want to be able to continuously add parts and materials and even labor to the job over a long period of time and then generate a report showing the total cost ToDate.
MiniMRP wasn't built for that. I'm sure there are packages out there that are made specifically for that purpose. Maybe 'Job Costing' is the name for that kind of thing? Google it. See what pops up.
But. If you're determined to do it with MiniMRP. You could create an Assembly and Issue it. Every so often, as more parts were added to the BOM, select the work order option to "UnDo" in other words 'UnIssue' and then 'ReIssue' the Work Order. This would, in effect, bring everything back into the inventory and immediately take it back out again including the parts that were most recently added to the BOM. Would that work?
